Gestrike sheep

Sheep and lamb

Gestrike sheep are an old strain of rustic sheep that originated in the Swedish province of Gästrikland. The breed today is critically endangered.

The ewes are small and light in weight. The color of Gestrike sheep may vary. Some are black, and others are brown or white or patched.

Both rams and ewes may be horned or unhorned. They are ordinarily very tame and affectionate. They are usually very good for controlling undergrowth.

At the museum we use wool, meat and pelts from these sheep.
