The Kitchen Garden

The Kitchen Garden.

Crops that farmers in the province of Västmanland might have cultivated are grown in the Farmstead’s kitchen garden.

These include cabbage, turnips, swedes and other vegetables such as carrots, onions, peas and beans. The garden also contains spices. Prior to large-scale cultivation, potatoes were also grown in kitchen gardens.

The ‘Romfartuna’ broad bean is from Romfartuna where women from a particular family have grown broad beans for generations. The bean has been handed down from mother to daughter from generation to generation. It was sown with potatoes and used for soup.

‘Olivia´s shallots', which are also grown here, have a similar history.
